In Poland status of unemployed on the labour market is prescribed by the statute from 20th April 2004, about promotion of employment, labour market institutions and implementing orders to this statute. The statute applies to the Polish citizens and specified categories of foreigners, which are going to work (or do work) on a territory of Poland.

A foreigner who is not an EU citizen may work in Poland without the need to obtain a work permit or other document confirming the possibility of working in Poland, if, among other things:
